I am so thrilled you found my page and I want to share a little about myself so that we can learn more about one another.
I am learning about how to introduce myself by telling you who I am rather than what I am. At the core of who I am, there is a creative spark. I want to create things: essays, novels, sermons, reflections, experiences. I am creative and imaginative. Some would call me an idealist or dreamer, but who are they to have a say in who I am?
I thirst for justice, aspiring to be an agent of reconciliation and justice in a world that is so unjust. I am on a journey to discover how to be anti-racist in all that I do, though I fail at this often.
I hope for a world that I can share with my daughter, where she will not experience half of the hurdles and hurt that I have seen along the way. I am passionate about acting and advocating for fair treatment of women, LGBTQ people, and people who are BIPOC.
I practice Christianity, practice being the operative term, given our current situation in which Christianity has been co-opted by the far right.. My faith is in formation and I nourish it through contemplative practices, writing, and prayer.
I am a cycling enthusiast, having completed the Des Moines Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa. My husband, John, and I have two girls: one has two legs (Sophie) and the other has four (Lily, the German Shepherd).
In 2020, John and I created a pilgrimage of historic Baptist churches along the East Coast to help our congregation feel more connected to the outside world in the middle of the COVID crisis.
Articles about the Pilgrimage
In early 2021, inspired by Ross Gay's Book of Delights, I gathered 5 churches from around the U.S. to journey together as we catalogued our delights for 3 months.
